Anna M Blake :
"Anna Blake is the Anne Lamott of ranching, caring for animals, and life on the prairie: a passionate storyteller combining the wit and wisdom that comes from hard work and harder knocks, but with a common sense and compassion that not only makes a great writer, but also a great neighbor. You’ll want to move next door." -Emily Polis Gibson
I’m an animal advocate, award-winning author, solo RV traveler, old-school feminist, dog companion, unabashed lover of sunsets, and professional equine clinician. I’m a woman of a certain age who has done just about everything and done it well. No longer auditioning.
I was born in Cavalier County, North Dakota, in 1954, the youngest daughter in a farm family. Now I live at Infinity Farm, on the flat, windy, treeless prairie of Colorado with a herd of reprobates, raconteurs, and our moral compass, Edgar Rice Burro.
I've traveled around the world and the US teaching communication skills and affirmative training methods for horses and humans. I started an online Barn School during COVID-19 that is very popular because horses like to work from home. My first babysitter was a horse and we’ve been looking out for each other ever since.
Previously, I was a self-employed goldsmith, showing one-of-a-kind artwork in galleries from coast to coast. My Denver studio and gallery were shared with generations of good dogs.
In my early writing career, I co-wrote a few screenplays, one of which was produced as a movie. I have also had articles published in international magazines. I enjoy offering memoir and creative writing workshops. My writing practice has given me a deeper perception and understanding of the world, and changed my life entirely.
My books include:
Stable Relation, A memoir of one woman’s spirited journey home.
Relaxed & Forward: Relationship advice from your horse.
Barn Dance, Nickers, brays, bleats, howls, and quacks: Tales from the herd.
Horse Prayers, Poems from the Prairie.
Going Steady, More relationship advice from your horse.
Horse. Woman. Poems from our lives.
Undomesticated Women: Anecdotal Evidence from the Road
